Treatment


Psychological therapy, behavioral therapy, and prescription medicine are the primary treatments for PE. Some topical sprays can also help; however, they may cause vaginal numbness if they are not removed properly prior to intercourse. You can talk with your healthcare provider to decide which is best for you.




Follow-Up


Depending on your treatment plan, your follow-up schedule will vary. It can vary from 6 weeks after initial start to every 3-6 months. Once stable, clients can be seen annually.

What causes PE?


The true cause is unknown. PE is expected to be caused by psychological factors such as stress, anxiety and shame, and also biological causes such as medication side effects, hormonal imbalances or injuries to the nerves. PE can also be the result of other conditions, such as erectile dysfunction (when a man is not firm enough to keep an erection) prostatitis (an infection of your prostate), or chronic pain syndrome.
